Some big news: Dublin City Council will no longer permit plastic bags to be used for waste collection on 90 streets of the core city centre (the overwhelmingly commerical area marked on the map). The move from bags starts this month: it'll be mandatory by January.

Yesterday myself and Marc Ó Cathasaigh TD met with the new CEO of Waterford City & County Council Seán McKeown, as well as the Waterford Chamber of Commerce to talk about the transformational North Quay project as well as other issues in Waterford.

Glad I got the chance to drop into the Sacred Heart Community Family Resource Centre, an invaluable resource for the local community, running childcare, social prescribing and cooking classes for families.

It’s well past time we cleaned up our waterways. That’s why we’re launching Ireland’s new Water Action Plan: a roadmap to restore the water quality of our rivers, lakes, estuaries, coasts and groundwaters and protect against further deterioration.

This will be achieved by preventing and reducing water pollution, restoring natural ecosystems and letting more of our rivers run free as well as continuing heavy investment in our water infrastructure. Implementation will be coordinated through a new Programme Delivery Office.
