Dear Martha, Situation’s grim. After the new Landlord came the Town Square was overrun by Orangeman ideologues and… human-impersonating robots! The Landlord’s plan is to steer the election towards the Orangeman, with whom he has back deals. We’re squatting for now! In sol, R.

If this estimate proves correct, then 2024 will mark the 16th time since 1940 that global average annual surface temperature record has been broken & the 5th time we've set consecutive records. Statistically-speaking, there'd only be a 25% chance that 2025 would set a record.

It's September! Last year the global average surface temperature record for September was famously described by Zeke Hausfather as "gobsmackingly bananas!" This chart tries to show why: September 2023 broke the record by a *record margin* more than 2X larger than prior margin🤯🍌🍌

In fact, the margin by which the Sep 2023 record broke the prior record is nearly 8X larger than the former AVERAGE margin by which prior records were broken. Gobsmackingly Bananas indeed!

The massive spike in burn area globally in August 2024 appears to be significantly influenced by a major increase in cropland-related fires in Angola. While these fires have a large burn area, they typically have relatively lower emissions per hectare.

Woah! New research shows how vital biodiversity is to thriving humanity: In US counties where bats declined from white-nose syndrome, insect numbers surged, leading to a 31% rise in pesticide use and subsequently *an 8% increase in infant mortality*! #Biodiversity #Conservation

This tweet appears to be resonating! It’s a simultaneously dark but also beautiful example of nature’s interconnectedness - and yes, we’re part of nature!

I’ve heard from a couple global wildfire experts who suspect this recent uptick may be an error due to faulty satellite data over Africa. They’re looking into it. Stay tuned!

Now that’s a 400 year data set! “The number of sunspots on any day indicates how magnetically active the sun is. They've been counted every day since 1610, which has helped astronomers calculate that the sun's magnetic activity waxes and wanes through an 11-year solar cycle.”

Are Alberta and the UK doing a degrowth? "A degrowth scenario is not a 'smaller economy' ... it is a high-capacity economy which is reducing less-necessary production" (Jason Hickel)

Golly I think this is my first tweet to get over 10k likes! A tweet about a science paper illustrating the human costs of biodiversity decline🤓👍🦇
