Be nice to your cleaners. Make them part of your team. Without them, things fall apart and get messy (literally) very quickly. If everyone’s followed the example of the RAF and how they treat their cleaners, the world would be a kinder place

Hiring Librarians (@hiringlib) 's Twitter Profile Photo

This week I'm asking people who hire library and LIS workers: When you are considering hiring someone, do you check out their social media first?

“I’ve seen these guys help people who don’t speak English print off a form for a visa ... Then they’ll patiently help someone who’s homeless. Then they’ll help me with my inquiry about a book, * they’ll know all about it. And they’re grossly underpaid.” theguardian.com/books/article/…

The huge importance of not just libraries but librarians . Will be raising this in Lords next Thursday and urging government to significantly reverse council funding. theguardian.com/books/article/…

We've much for which to thank library volunteers yet, like volunteers in schools & hospitals, they mustn't be asked to substitute for fully-trained library staff managing the wide breadth of services that communities need. It's time to set aside quaint outdated views of the job!

So sad that more than 180 UK public libraries have closed since 2016. My mother signed me up for the local library as soon as she could. Libraries changed my life

On BBC Radio 4 Today Richard Ovenden calls on Govt to address 'critical' issues in #Libraries. "Responsibility is held by Govt to provide a comprehensive & efficient library service" - service needs to be more 'joined up' - an "infrastructure for democracy" From 02:23 bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m0…

Libraries are in the spotlight following the BBC investigation into closures. Here readers tell their stories on the importance of libraries: theguardian.com/books/article/… The Guardian must've taken inspiration from our #LibrariesChangeLives campaign that we've run throughout 2024 1/2

Today we made a visit to Clee ward to measure up for the new patient library and discuss options on what to do with existing book stock already circulating on this ward. It was lovely to see how enthusiastic the OT, activity care coordinator and ward manager were! #patientlibrary

⭐️GP to refer for wheelchair...⭐️ I just despair. 😩100 requests for appointments by 1pm. 🦽1 had multiple problems in 1 consultation, including the hospital asking us to refer for a wheelchair. 10 mins to find the referal process. Then this convoluted process⬇️ We can't do this.

Waterstones Book shop in my home city of Bradford. Formerly the wool exchange dating back to the 19th century. Surely one of the greatest bookshops in the world.

This is shoddy, silly journalism by BBC Midlands. Story looks planted by the so-called Taxpayers Alliance whose "research" is quoted. Birmingham City Council holds these art/museum assets in trust, most were donated. It cannot and should not flog them off.
