Highlight good teaching. Tackle bad teaching immediately. Set out a precise house style that all employ. U got something better to offer? Scalable? Convince me! Otherwise, house style it is.

I talk about edutourism a lot. Visiting schools. Seeing a poster or such like and thinking that’s the magic ingredient. Michaela’s ‘magic’ is the certainty of the head & the way in which that certainty permeates everything. KB’s confidence gives the staff confidence.

Dr Jill Berry Mary Myatt Tes If you get the transition from KS2 into the KS3 powerhouse right, student engagement and thinking is challenged and supported from day one. We must see KS3 as not only a prerequisite to KS4, but an evolution of KS2 too.

A follow-up poll, as COVID-19 seems rife in schools ATM and the government is still hiding these figures. At least it will give educators an idea of the problems. Please vote, RT and comment with numbers, if more than 2 staff are off. In our school, we have:

On this date two years ago, the majority of children began learning from home. Today on Tes we celebrate the huge achievements of schools since then and we detail how much harder the pandemic was made because of the incompetence of others. (1/6)

Leadership Tip Always keep a wedge of post it notes in your pocket. Whenever you visit a lesson, even for a few minutes, jot down something that you saw which was ace (there will be something). You'll be surprised the difference it makes to people's day and culture overall.

Been talking with pupils about what makes learning "stick" in the long term. They mention repetition, recall exercises, refererence to prior learning & revisiting of material. But they also mention the importance, for making content memorable, of "lots of discussion" & "fun." 🤔

Really inspiring presentation on ‘levelling up’ by Becky Wood (Team English). Essential reminder that good teaching for disadvantaged students is basically good teaching + a timely reminder never to lower expectations. #TLLeeds22

Anybody else feel like writing to AQA about the timings of the Lang Paper 2 exam? It doesn’t seem fair that pupils have the same amount of time to read 2 sources as they do to read 1 in Paper 1 🤔

Heads of English and Literacy Leads: What do you currently use to assess reading ages and literacy gaps? We use NGRT testing but I’m not convinced that they are as robust as we need. Thanks in advance for any contributions you can spare.
