Sorry to hear about the death of science writer Steve Silberman. His book NEUROTRIBES: THE LEGACY OF AUTISM AND THE FUTURE OF NEURODIVERSITY, is a foundational work, one that helped me understand and embrace my own neurodiverse status. And he fought for the right things. RIP.

For Kenny Dorham's centennial: My piece exploring my favorite solo of his, It Could Happen to You (1961), from INTA SOMETHIN', recently reissued as a Tone Poet. Thanks to Ethan Iverson for publishing on his Substack & Michael Weiss for the transcription. iverson.substack.com/p/tt-429-the-uโ€ฆ

spell check: Hannibal "Lector" is trending, but the last name is actually "Lecter" in the Thomas Harris books and most of the films. In Michael Mann's MANHUNTER it is โ€œLecktorโ€ for an unknown reason.

Breaking ground today on my next commission, a set of trio (Thomas Morgan/Kush Abadey) + big band settings of famous movie/TV music. Anyone have an mp3 of original soundtrack THE TAKING OF PELHAM 123 by David Shire? (Everything else was easy to purchase digitally)

just (finally) transcribed that offbeat 4/4 sax line in 5/4 MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE theme that's caught my ear for 40 years. Yeah Lalo

๐Ÿ˜‚ Well actually I don't know Bruckner that well, except for Symphony no. 7, which I adore. This week I plan to finally deal with no. 8. All the scores are now a click away at IMSLP, including piano reductions, so that is a help for my unsophisticated symphonic perspective

Watched THE KILLER (2023) directed by David Fincher and starring Michael Fassbender. In terms of basic excellence undercut by a total failure to land on an acceptable aesthetic, this is the worst hitman movie I've ever seen.

Ethan Iverson Some great films listed (going to rewatch Grosse Pointe Blank) that got me wondering: what's the first Hollywood hitman film? Is there an earlier one than 1942's This Gun For Hire?

Today is the birthday of jazz legend Andrew Nathaniel White. The multi-instrumentalist played with Otis, Stevie, McCoy, 5th Dimension, Weather Report, and (importantly) himself. As an independent businessman, he produced an enormous library of music, books, and transcriptions.
