On the mixtape version of Rich Homie Quan's "Flex," DJ Fresh berates the listener for being too cheap to buy the single and directs them to iTunes: "What, you thought I was going to give you the no-DJ version?" 2015 was an eternity ago. youtube.com/watch?v=PyF2wy…

Rich Homie Quan did not get his due. Some amazing singles, a godly run of mixtapes that are a blast, influential projects. He came up around so much competing talent but he really was one of the acts that crystallized the potential of melodic rap, brought it all together

Rich Home Quan was much more than the sum of these singles β€” he was a springboard, his mixtapes hold up, and his influence is still felt β€” BUT even if you just reduce him to the hits, what a legacy. This is perfection in three acts. He brightened the world with these.

β€œThis, in so many ways, sums up Quan’s career: unstuck in time ever so slightly, caught between eras, yet still, on the most fundamental level, undeniable.” theringer.com/rap/2024/9/6/2…

It's 2024 and they have a new singer, but Linkin Park are still writing lyrics around grievances, accusations, and an unspecified "you" as their foil. A good band, an important band, a misunderstood band. But man they're prone to some really dodgy songwriting.
