Complaining about vote-splitting while upholding first-past-the-post? Maybe the real issue isn’t the voters—it’s the system you won’t fix.

Your reminder that B Higgs did not win a majority of the votes last provincial election. We need electoral reform, especially when a destructive Boomer like Higgs can trash the joint when most ppl voted against the PCs.

Alain Bard Peter Julian 🇨🇦 He never mentioned that criteria until it was clear that #ProportionalRepresentation was the clear favourite—and he needed a convenient excuse to kill it. The Libs were the only party to vote against the majority report of the ERRE. Weird, eh?

The BC Liberals fear-mongered all through the 2018 referendum about how proportional representation would allow extremists into the legislature. Now, the party is dead and this guy is a few percentage points away from a majority government.

When people talk about how they’re voting in the next Canadian federal election, I get the impression that many don’t really understand the effect that the First-Past-the-Post electoral system has on the impact of their vote. First, only the people in one electoral

First-past-the-post means the Conservatives don't need Montreal to win the election, so he doesn't need to try to appeal there for votes. Proportional representation means votes matter everywhere and Montreal Conservatives would have a voice.

I have to wonder how much father along we'd be on housing, healthcare, education, and the environment (and more) if we actually had fairer electoral systems. It's not a panacea, but countries using more democratic systems certainly seem to do better on all those issues. :/

Prioritizing safe seats highlights why we need proportional representation. Under first-past-the-post, parties focus on holding power instead of serving all voters. With PR, every vote counts, and decisions would reflect the needs of all Albertans, not just a select few.
