We are excited that the Swiss National Science Foundation has funded our interdisciplinary project, in which we (Christophe Dessimoz, Iñaki Ruiz-Trillo, 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘬, Pedro Beltrao, and Dave Moi) would like to reconstruct the urmetazoan protein repertoire and interaction network.
After 5 years of an emotional roller-coaster, we are so happy to see our latest Asgard adventure published! nature.com/articles/s4158… A huge thanks to my brilliant co-first authors and friends Daniel Tamarit & mus musculus, and of course Thijs J. G. Ettema 🦠🔬🇳🇱🇸🇪🇪🇺! A thread 🧵.
Very excited about this grant with Fasshauer_Lab 𝘋𝘪𝘳𝘬 Christophe Dessimoz Pedro Beltrao Dave Moi to reconstruct the #urmetazoan protein repertoire & interaction network using phylogenomics, proteomics, cell biology & biochemical approaches! #animalorigins #evolution

Very happy to see the comic I made with makinaro.com on Bluesky - Comms Open republished by Scientific American today!
Off to a great start of the week with the bulk of my PhD work published on Protein Science. Briefly, using biochemical/physical and computational approaches we characterised the conformational changes regulating the Munc18-1/syntaxin-1a complex. More here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/epdf/10.10…
A postdoc position is available in our group (fasshauerlab.org). Join us to explore the evolution of the vesicle trafficking machinery during 1) the rise of the eukaryotic cell and 2) the emergence of the first animals. Please RT. More details at: career5.successfactors.eu/career?career%…
Our latest study is available as a preprint. aysima hacisuleyman looked at the question of how protein dynamics and function can be investigated directly using the protein sequence. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Pleased to announce our latest preprint: Genetically Encoded FerriTag as a Specific Label for Cryo-Electron Tomography. Great work of Wang Chang and Ioan Iacovache. doi.org/10.1101/2024.0… with great support of Dubochet Center for Imaging (DCI)-Bern and Microscopy Imaging Center Bern
Analyses by Barbara Mota, AnnaSapfo Malaspinas, Olivier Delaneau et al. show that the Polynesian population of Rapa Nui (Easter Island) already had a Native American admixture of about 10% before Columbus, which shows that they reached the American continent. nature.com/articles/s4158…
