Transforming Africa also calls for greater investment in local communities hosting people forced to flee. As the African Development Bank Group Annual Meeting takes place this week, we urge stronger support for national efforts to drive refugee inclusion, solutions & the growth of local economies.

Today in Renk, South Sudan, I met families newly arrived from Sudan, chased by one of the most brutal wars on earth. The humanitarian effort here is huge, but a massive increase in arrivals would be difficult to manage — a real possibility which only ending the war can prevent.

A South Sudanese sister. A Sudanese brother. Both were living in Khartoum. Their lives were interrupted by the conflict. Both have been displaced several times. I met them today in Kosti. They want #peace; & more support to alleviate some of the many challenges they face.

Reminiscing on #WorldRefugeeDay with a former refugee, now working with UNHCR East, Horn of Africa and Great Lakes. Millions more refugees in the East & Horn of Africa region need our support, not just to survive but to thrive. We can do much more to be in solidarity #WithRefugees

In times of conflict, refugees and migrants find themselves forced to move onward. UNHCR and MMC published a paper on the #refugee and migrants movement from Eastern #Sudan. There is an urgent need to address the protection challenges they face!!

The just concluded joint WPF/UNHCR mission in Uganda visiting Orichinga refugee settlement show cased the incredible resilience of refugees to be self reliant! This couldn’t have been achieved without the support and willingness of the GoU 🇺🇬, host community and partners! 👏

After years of living as a refugee in Uganda, Florence has returned to her hometown in South Sudan. She is now running a soap-making business and training other returnees just like her, so that they make a living and rebuild their lives. #PocketsOfHope
