"Removing alcohol advertising from The Psychologist would not take away the audience's right to drink. It would just remove a prompt, and an implicit validation from the BPS, for them do so. It would be the ethical thing to do." Dr Alex Barker British Psychological Society bps.org.uk/psychologist/s…

IMHO Nicely argued, by Alex. It reminded me of chatting with a psychologist who said something like: for every five patients, for one alcohol will be the main problem and for another alcohol will be making the main problem worse. Such a big issue, yet few are happy tackling it

And, on Alex's point more directly, psychologists are no less troubled by psychological issues than anyone else, not least because of the pressure of their work. Alcohol is likely to make such discomforts worse for them, just as does for their patients, even if it is nice wine.

The Addiction Mission aims to improve the addiction research environment and incentivise new treatments, technologies, and approaches. Help shape the project by proposing some questions that you would like addiction research to answer.

Anyone with experience of alcohol dependence (or other addictions) could help shape future research by completing this survey. Research that would help people with dependence, and their families, in the future.

A short article by ⁦Professor ⁦Jonathan Portes⁩ which is the most level-headed and practical thing I’ve ever read about the UK and immigration. Do have a read, it’s a massive breath of fresh air. Let’s hope the new Home Office team have read it. theguardian.com/books/article/…
