Liberation! The Great Swan continues swanning as Shermans from Guards Armoured Division pass an American Jeep in Antoing, just across the Franco-Belgian border south of Tournai #OTD in 1944. En route to Brussels, they would reach it later that day.

Jewish memorial in Den Bosch, commemorating 293 Jewish citizens murdered during WW2. The youngest 4 months old, the oldest 86 years old. Because of this, the city’s Jewish community practically ceased to exist. Reading the names & ages drives home the evil of antisemitism.

Secretly I always knew Jacques was frightened of spiders, now a client has actually confirmed my suspicions... The clients were floored when they realised that a third brother was present at the time 👇

Eighty years ago Brussels had been liberated. The enemy was in full on retreat. 5 September would be known as Dolles Dinsdag (Mad Tuesday) due to the sheer numbers retreating. Slowly but surely that retreat would start to slow down, regroup and reorganise #OpMG

This pigeon was awarded the Dickin Medal as a result of a flight he undertook through a severe tropical storm on 12 July 1945. 🎖️ Flying 65km in 50 minutes, the pigeon carried a rescue message from a floundering boat to Madang, allowing it to be salvaged.

The Belgian city of Ypres was liberated #OTD in 1944 by General Maczek’s 1st Polish Armoured Division, and his men attended the Last Post which had been silent for four years. This photo shows British Gunners soon after the liberation at the Menin Gate in September 1944.

Today I bumped into an Irishman once in the morning/once in the afternoon & suggested that he might like to visit the Irish poet Francis Ledwidge in Artillery Wood. I was astounded when he replied "why would I visit him? He's 16th Irish Division - Catholics - Southern Ireland,

The dawn this morning was absolutely sublime. I can’t begin to describe the variety of blues of the sky that came through the rising of the sun. The differing greens of the trees and the colour of the land prominently standing out against the sky. Breathtakingly beautiful!
