I'm mildly amused by the places offering bear spray rental. It reminds me of the banter between parachute packers and aircrew: "If it doesn't work, bring it back"!

Interesting to see the process involved in despatching airliners - a view rarely available at UK airports. It seems that the chocks on this 737 at JAC were reluctant to come away.

Among the letters awaiting our return today was junk mail which the envelope proclaimed is about "Britain's favourite funeral plan". I think I'll send it back, marked "DECEASED"!

We celebrated Fiona Elliott's birthday with a trip to see #GuysAndDolls at the Bridge Theatre. We've seen many productions of the show over the years, but this one was outstanding. Amazing performances, clever staging and audience interaction.

I am now licensed to... drive sheep over bridges. A simple ceremony at #Guildhall, followed by a very interesting talk by the Clerk of the Chamberlain's Court, explaining the history of the Guilds and Freedom. Many thanks also to Danny the Beadle.

Must be nearly #FlyingAntDay - the ants on the patio are busily running around, and the robin that supervises my gardening is having a feast, occasionally shaking ants off his leg as he eats.

A reminder for my lecture on Tuesday. Discover how the RAF's desire for its own museum dates back to the early 1930s. Gasp at the grumpiness of 1950s civil servants, and cheer the recent change of policy that makes it easier for volunteer-run museums to acquire aircraft!

It has come around again, as it does every year: a significant date in RAF history. And this year it's also 40 years since I joined the staff of RAF Museum (although I had been an occasional volunteer since November 1980, hoping that a vacancy might arise...)

3 University of Hertfordshire graduates: gilldotelliott (BSc Computer Science, 2004), Phil ((BSc Aerospace Technology, 2014) and me (PhD History, 2024). Should there be discounted fees for families?
