My full interview tonight on why I oppose the cut to the Winter Fuel Allowance with Andrew Marr on @lbc.

So many constituents have written to me in despair about the plans to cut the Winter Fuel Allowance. Below are a few examples. It is for these people and for all the 1.6 million pensioners below the poverty line who this will affect that I can't support this cut today.

I just voted against cutting the Winter Fuel Allowance. For me, this was a matter of conscience. This cut is not only going to cause even greater hardship for so many pensioners in my constituency who are already living in poverty, but it will also cost lives.

I’m sorry but these are not “tough decisions” for politicians. They are tough decisions for those forced to choose between heating their homes and eating.

Two weeks ago we agreed to a new working agreement on LNER. Since, there have been zero cancellations because of driver shortages. In the 2 weeks prior, there were 5 per day on average. We’re resetting industrial relations and delivering for passengers.
