In 1885, the first Jacob "cream cracker" is made. It was invented by Joseph Haughton at his home in Dublin, Ireland, and then manufactured by William Jacob in his small bakery. The name refers to the method in which the mixture is creamed during manufacture. #irishinventors

#OTD 1878 Intermediate Education Act was passed providing a breakthrough in girls' secondary education. Along with the 1879 Royal University of Ireland Act, they established the principle that females had the right to sit for public competitive exams & take university degrees.
