The cast skull our Collections Assistant Susanne is shown holding belongs to Lestodon armatus, a large ground sloth that lived in South America during the Pleistocene Epoch. #DYK Lestodon was one of the largest ground sloths, reaching the size of an Asian elephant?

A white Goniatite fossil on a dark shale background. The shells of these ancient relatives of Squid and Octopus tend to preserve well in the fossil record and there are millions of them scattered through the rock layers in the Cliffs of Moher. County Clare, Ireland.

We finally get to La Chimera, which is the best film about Italy in the 80s which is also about the menace, closeness & utter strangeness of the ancient past while also featuring a top British lead giving a brilliantly moody & comic performance that you will ever see

This young Allosaurus encountering a crocodile by James Gurney may not be accurate(true crocodiles like this hadn’t evolved yet), but it’s certainly a stunning piece…

I do my best to make insightful videos on the science of prehistoric animals and I get swamped by questions like this. Will still answer them though ofc. Love it tbh.
