Terrible news. Condolences to his family, friends and community. As long as our streets continue to prioritize speed and convenience over safety, no one is safe from the devastation of traffic violence.

Just as John and I are discussing the need for Wynkoop St to be a more people-friendly space at Union Station, a driver (after the FedEx truck) fails to stop at a stop sign as a pedestrian enters the crosswalk. No one demonstrates the need for change better than bad drivers.

On the other side of the school where I work as a crossing guard, I rely heavily on traffic cones to increase pedestrian safety. Not only do they prohibit illegal parking which retains visibility at the crosswalks, but they promote slower speeds and turns.

I found the perfect water bottle holder to keep me hydrated during these sweltering crossing guard afternoon shifts. Bonus points for being a Denver company and made in the USA! ⁦HandleStash⁩

My check-in instructions say to arrive 20+ minutes early to allow for parking. It feels like such an incredible life hack to pull up moments before my appointment at these beautiful racks by the entrance while watching drivers circle the full lots. 💪

FRIDAY: Councilwoman Gonzales-Gutierrez and I will be holding a press conference and rally at the site of one of the offensive signs which popped up across the city today. We are asking the community to gather at 10:00 AM on August 30, on the NE corner of Colfax and Garfield.

I’ve done everything I can think of to stop drivers from going the wrong way on this one-way at the school. The additional DO NOT ENTER signs and cone bulb-out should make it abundantly obvious, and yet I see this almost everyday.

I love shopping at our local farmers’ market, but seeing so many people biking here is an absolute delight in itself.
