I still see Matlab as a main language listed on some resumes I review, especially from candidates with ECE backgrounds.

If you’re still teaching with Matlab instead of Python, or if you’re using Matlab in your research group, you’re doing your students a real disservice.

New blog post! I found 'Differentiable Search of Evolutionary Trees' by Ramith Hettiarachchi to be amazingly accessible, innovative, and relevant to my line of work. Here's my Journal Club review of the paper: buff.ly/47B530X. Congrats, Ramith, and ty for reviewing my review!

Good evening, Twitter! I’m spending my Friday night in the affluent Bay Area suburb of Millbrae, where the county is presenting a plan to turn a hotel into ~100 homes for unhoused residents.

It appears that the entire city is here, and they are *pissed*. 🧵

I’m heartbroken to share the sudden passing of a dear friend, Sliman Bensmaia (sliman bensmaia (@[email protected])). I worked on one of my best papers with him, and doing science with him was a highlight of my scientific career. Read on -- 1/n

Large language models have demonstrated a surprising range of skills and behaviors. How can we trace their source? In our new paper, we use influence functions to find training examples that contribute to a given model output.
