Your reminder that the ‘free school books’ scheme is an accountancy trick, nothing else. They took the money from the ICT Grant schools were due to get in the final term in 22/23 and put it into books instead. A policy worth debating - but no one has been honest about it.

Teachers don't need to have an amazingly decorated classroom to be good. Displays don't make you a better teacher. You can be a great teacher without wasting hours and hours on pretty decorations.

In communication with a young Insta teacher, who wants her lessons to be ‘fun’ Fun is not always of educational value. Often a good discussion has more value than ‘fun’ activities. Spoke to my students about it, ‘please don’t give us play dough, we’re 17’ 😂#edchatie

What has happened to Norma Foley's announcement in March '22? Simply put; she, and her department, have been found out. This is what happens when you lack research, avoid consultation, and don't understand on the ground teaching and learning. irishtimes.com/ireland/educat…

I'm currently teaching Dr Emily Wilson trans of the Odyssey with 6th year (18/19 yos) class. They enjoy it, very straightforward, accessible.I really just can't understand the negativity around it (well actually unfortunately I can). Can't wait to do the Illiad in a few years

To make a mobile phone ban work you need to 1. *Train* staff why you are doing it, and let them know it matters 2. Insist that everyone confiscates on sight 3. Train staff what to say and how to do that 4. Back them when they do, and hold them accountable when they don't

In 1990, we were given an empty Dublin City Council flat to store hundreds of tenement artefacts, along with old Dublin Corporation reports on housing, sickness, & deaths. Tenement conditions. Checks on local shops selling diluted milk and butter, butcher’s selling rotten 1/9

Imv, perhaps the worst development in history teaching over the last fifty years has been the idea that pupils should learn history *from sources* –often by ‘inferring’ information or piecing it together for themselves. Here’s (quite literally) a textbook example.

Try telling kids who are getting bullied every day and are too scared to even speak in class that from now on the school will have fewer rules, fewer consequences and be ‘less strict’.

Such an amazing set of ideas and resources shared on this thread from Dan Warner-Meanwell on teaching climate change history. Would make a brilliant unit in Transition Year in history or geog. Link to all the resources towards the end HTAI Cork HTA Dublin Branch HTAI #histedchatie
