Honestly the soft skills I had to learn as a homeschooler (self-direction, self-motivation, self-containment) have been *way* more valuable to my life post-graduation than a lot of the academics. And I loved the academics.

I wish there was a Marie Kondo button on social media where you could click "this does not spark joy" and the algorithm never fed you anything like it ever again.

"Congratulations, your kids can read! (Sort of)! But also they hate it so much they'll never want to do it ever again." - most public schools, to most parents

When I was in the classroom, I had multiple students tell me they would never read again after they graduated. When you pick literature apart, by either segmenting it or reducing the story to mere elements, it loses its appeal.

Your kid doesn’t need more toys, they need more free time — enough to get bored, so they can learn to use their imagination.

I’m honored to be doing some work with the University of Austin team as they kick off the fall term. I’ve been on their campus a bunch over the past couple weeks, and have been deeply impressed by the caliber of human they’ve attracted: both staff and students. I don’t say this lightly

I never went to college. I went straight from high school to the startup world, then started a business of my own. I read, I wrote, I networked. Compared to the average university, I 100% got a better education. But if University of Austin had existed when I was 18, I would have gone.
