If I read the rail map in the Ireland rail review proposals correctly it’s proposing basically a new rail link from Portarlington to Drogheda. That would be great to see. Interesting though it’s sort of passed under the radar. Not much detail on the specifics is there?

In October, Mrs Turtle and I set off to find how far we could get from the Prime Meridian by ground-level public transport in 24hrs. We ended up in the suburbs of Warsaw. Tomorrow, we’re going back to Greenwich for the inevitable follow-up: #GoWest24 More islands, fewer borders.

Facing severe losses, NS online announced a price hike for train tickets (+8%). That would only make sense if we treat their competitor -cars- similarly. They cost Dutch tax payers at least 17 Billion Euro per year! See all numbers per country: cedelft.eu/wp-content/upl…

People who don’t drive are not “a burden”. The idea that someone’s quality of life is reduced if they don’t have a car is what gave rise to the many many problems caused by car dependence that we’re currently trying to undo…

It just takes 1 (one!) car to screw over hundreds of bus passengers with extra delay they shouldn’t be facing. Shows how finely balanced and easily skewed sustainable transport infrastructure is when trying deal with the impact of cars.

Any policy that allows for brownfield to be replaced by greenfield, no matter how laudable the overall intentions are, will generate more car use for the same number of homes. Brownfield really needs to be the preferred option theguardian.com/society/articl…
