Calling climate change the “climate crisis” or “climate emergency” doesn’t elicit greater concern or a sense of urgency from people, finds new paper polling the US public. “Changing terminology is likely not the key solution for promoting climate action” link.springer.com/article/10.100…

As Ernesto heads north & intensifies, it's expected to generate a massive swath of waves 🌊 Maximum individual wave heights are forecast to reach *60-80 feet*, with Bermuda & Atlantic Canada in the storm's path. Big swells will affect the Mid-Atlantic & Northeast this weekend.

NEW: Are you curious about how mosquito season is getting longer in the U.S. due to climate change, and where it’s shrinking? See how it is changing in your area, via ⁦Harry Stevens⁩ washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…

Cool story. "Mosquito days" are changing in the US, but in both directions. Some places getting so hot & dry that fewer mosquitos (Texas, Calif Central Valley). Story includes way to put in cities. Palo Alto now gets 17 MORE mosquito days. Feels right. washingtonpost.com/climate-enviro…

The 2023 Canadian forest fires released about 640 million metric tons of carbon, according to a NASA study. That’s comparable to the annual fossil fuel emissions of a large industrialized nation. The fires were driven by Canada’s warmest and driest conditions in decades.

Solar power increased 10X in the last 10 years. It is on pace to increase ~10X within another 10 years. The will be the equivalent of multiplying the entire world’s fleet of nuclear reactors by 8x in less than the time it takes to build ... one nuclear reactor.

Here's another update to this chart as of Sep 3. Climatologically, only 35% of the season's ACE has occurred by now. The 2024 #HurricaneSeason's dot will fall somewhere in the orange oval (left side if nothing else forms, right side if the rest of the season goes off the rails).
