When Zahawi was found to have been forced to pay millions of pounds to settle a dispute with HMRC, Jenrick defended him, saying that it was a "private matter" and there had been no “inappropriate behaviour” by the former Chancellor. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

PAY ATTENTION, folks. Do you see how we're getting so much information from the media about the child shooter and his family in the most recent school shooting? Why haven't we heard about the shooter (or his family) who "attempted the assassination of Trump"? COMPLETE SILENCE.

The amount of "Starmer will have to resign over this" type tweets, and it's because of something hilariously minor, is getting out of hand. Guys, he's here for five years - probably ten. Maybe fifteen. If you don't like it, build something better.

A photograph from 1890 but In 1848, there were an estimated 30,000 lawless and roaming children in London. Often referred to as Street Urchins, or guttersnipes, these poor souls had no homes to go to, often turning to petty crime.

🚨🚨🚨BREAKING: Justice Merchan has delayed sentencing in Trump’s case until Nov. 26. He states in his reasoning that it should allay concerns that the sentence impacts the election. I think it could be because prison is a likely outcome. What do you think?

Close to 40,000 people have signed up for pension credit in the weeks since the government announced it would be a prerequisite for claiming the winter fuel payment While this is more than a doubling for the last full year when data is available - 2022 - government statistics

Ignore the scare-mongering from a handful of lobbyists - stronger employment rights are supported by a large majority of managers. Basics like sick pay aren’t “economic risks”, they’re the bedrock of a decent economy theguardian.com/politics/artic…

Has anyone crunched the numbers ? Winter fuel allowance to be means tested. Led to a drive to increase take up of Pension Credit (40k new applications) to increase eligibility for WFA. Increased take up of PC - plus increased costs of means tested WFA. So where are the savings ?

Clare Hepworth OBE (@hepworthclare) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Brian Edwards There is truth in what you say Brian. It is true very many thousands don't need the WFA. Every year we hear them say they don't need it. But there are very many thousands who do need it. And therein lies the dilemma!

In my view the issue of Winter Fuel Allowance has been handled very clumsily. I think the drive to increase take up of Pension Credit should have been the starting point. A review of the Winter Fuel Allowance would then have been more soundly based. Just my very humble opinion.

Clare Hepworth OBE Clare, everyone is saying "winter fuel ALLOWANCE" but it is the one-off Winter Fuel PAYMENT that's being means tested. WFA is a supplement, payable to eligible people when outside temperatures dip below freezing for (I think) 5 consecutive days. I might be out of date tho??
