I genuinely think "relatability" becoming a checkmark for good characters is one of the very worst things to come out of the last few years of arts discourse. challenge yourself to be in someone else's shoes for once, my god.

I think social media fosters a certain level of non-clinical narcissism and critical discourse primarily happening on social media means that that narcissism taints it. see: fandom entitlement, thing I don't like = bad writing, relatable characters, etc. it all sucks.
