After several rainny days and the syncronized #spawning of #Porites rus last Monday (m.facebook.com/10008081079668…) we are back in the field, monitoring our shallowest site so far in Maharepa: very warm, very calm... expecting hypoxia building up tonight.

Fish in the lab!! Do coral-dwelling fish show #hypoxia tolerance? This is the core question we aim to answer with #respirometry experiments starting right now. Fishing was successful with Yann Lacube from criobe_pf, Rachael Morgan and andrea.c.c.

Successful sampling week in Ha’apiti. Water temperature peaked at 31.5°C and O2 fell to below 3mg/L some nights🌜! Thanks to #Moorea Fun Dive for facilitating our logistics!

We resume recordings to monitor coral-dwelling fish from the evening to the next morning. Finally we can do that in continuous recording with an extension of our batteries. Thanks to all technicians at Universitetet i Bergen and criobe_pf who have helped us on that!!

What is a scientist? What molecule is essential for life? What happens in the corals at night 🪸🌙 ? These are some of the questions that a very young and enthusiastic audience discussed with us in two schools in Moorea this week.

After 6 months, 60 scuba dives, 67 underwater recordings, 74 oxygen-logger deployments, 28 night watches by the sea, 41 respirometry trials, plus a lot of learning and more, our time in Moorea has come to its end (for now!). Thanks Suzanne Mills for being such an amazing host😁!
