We are seeing cases of COVID-19 rising within our hospitals and now caring for 137 positive patients and have 170 staff currently off sick because of it, adding to the pressures we are facing and therefore impacting the services we can deliver.

Awesome news alert! We‘ve been given the go ahead for major investment in the Island’s NHS – it's a once in a generation boost to local health and care services.

Ooh look. A calm and reasonable debate. About a chart. Using facts. On Twitter.

TL:DR - Buying a house is certainly less affordable now. But this chart overstates the effect by not adjusting both figures for inflation.

Truss’s ban on solar farms is completely bonkers. And also weirdly contradicts everything she claims she stands for - growth, energy security, delivering on renewables, new jobs, minimal state intervention, etc, etc. Time for another u-turn then…

I posted yesterday about what I saw in our Emergency Department and today we've had to declare a Critical Incident because of the pressure our teams are facing.

A short summary of what is happening for the Island's hospital at the moment for those that are interested 🧵

And here is the kicker. Huge inflationary pressures on all public services with no central funding to offset them are de facto cuts to the provision of those services independent.co.uk/news/uk/politi…

📢New data suggest that 180k people joined NHS hospital and community services in England in the year to June 2022. A record🥇. But, rather than🍻, it is - regrettably - time for a🧵on leavers (1/7) bbc.co.uk/news/health-63…

Could we have kept schools open? Correlation is not causation - but interesting comparisons nonetheless.

NEW: income inequality in US & UK is so wide that while the richest are very well off, the poorest have a worse standard of living than the poorest in countries like Slovenia ft.com/content/ef2654…

Essentially, US & UK are poor societies with some very rich people.

🧵Queen Elizabeth II, a life in charts.📈
Or rather: some charts about how this country transformed during her reign.
Best place to start: the population. Up 17m since 1952 to just over 67m.
That's a LOT of extra people.
Even more intriguing is what's going on beneath the surface

Emmanuel Macron’s insight that Elizabeth II represented “a sense of eternity” is the best explanation I’ve so far read as to why she inspired this level of veneration.

The Queen is this nation's last constant.

She - not the monarchy, she personally - is the last national institution that hasn't fallen into disrepair, disregard or distrust.

I don't think we're remotely ready for her loss.

Thankyou for your service, Ma’am. After eight decades of tirelessly working for your country - a job you never asked nor applied for but did with humility, humanity and brio - you’ve more than earned a rest. It’s been a real pleasure. 💕👑
