Day 2 IC2S2. Professor Dan Jurafski Dan Jurafsky is delivering a keynote on “Using NLP to Study Social Questions: Police-Community Relations and the Politics of Immigration”, highlighting the transformative potential of language analysis in understanding critical social issues.

Dan Jurafsky’s talk highlighted an application of NLP to analyze how Asian and Mexican immigrants are discussed in political discourse. There is striking similarity in dehumanization languages used to discuss Chinese immigrants in early 1900s and Mexican immigrants in 2020 AAPI Data
