Welcome to today's #SemaNaIPOA session. The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) is established pursuant to Cap 86 of the Laws of Kenya, to provide for civilian oversight over the work of the Police in Kenya. ^EM

Under Sections 6 (c and k) of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority Act, the Authority is required to monitor and investigate policing operations affecting members of the public; and to make recommendations to the National Police Service or any other State organ. ^EM

In line with these provisions, IPOA monitored the policing of; Anti-Finance Bill 2024/2025 protests on 18th, 19th, 20th, 21st, 24th, 25th, 27th, 30th, June 2024; Anti-government protests held on 2nd, 7th, 16th 18th,23rd July, 2024 and 8th August 2024; and Journalists’ protests
