Gentle reminder: There is a phone in every classroom and a front office in every school, just in case you need to get a hold of your kid in an "emergency." Using this excuse as a reason why YOUR kid *needs* to have their phone in school is just really ridiculous.

Big learning last school year: it's REALLY helpful to have a consistent set of check-in questions you can ask students/classes—and then see how the school year ebbs + flows for individuals and the classroom overall. Here are the 4 I'm using this year:

The goal of education isn’t student engagement it’s student learning. The words are not synonymous and the former doesn’t necessarily lead to the latter.

Fun fact: Social media paired with a decrease in reading fiction has led to an increase of people lacking empathy*. So if you find yourself wanting to be mean to someone online, might I suggest logging off and reading a book instead? (*it’s actually really interesting stuff!)
