We agree. This bill will erode housing stability, increase evictions, and make it harder for tenants to pay rent *and* for landlords to collect rent. DC Council must reject any bill built on baseless claims that low-income, primarily Black, tenants are lying about their needs.

In the wake of the DC Department of Human Services claiming it has almost 300 fewer housing resources for families exiting rapid re-housing than the DC Council appropriated, it is worth reiterating why permanent housing resources matter so much right now. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/…

When families are terminated from rapid re-housing, they can get stuck in a harmful cycle, where they become homeless, enter shelter, and are placed right back into rapid re-housing. Permanent affordable housing is often the only effective intervention that breaks this cycle:
