Mayor Bowser cut 1,000 families from D.C.'s rapid rehousing program weeks before they could access new housing resources. Councilmembers and advocates warn this could push families back into homelessness. buff.ly/3ZjXlXa

Thank you Alex Koma for capturing the true reality of our current Rapid Re-housing crisis. Families and children shouldn't be pushed out of their homes for just a few months until their vouchers come through. #endthecliff #keepfamilieshoused

Cutting assistance for families who are about to get a voucher both hurts families and costs more than if Mayor Muriel Bowser followed her longstanding policy to #KeepFamiliesHoused. washingtoncitypaper.com/article/749000…

I just sent a letter to Mayor Bowser, DHS Director Zeilinger, and DCHA Director Pettigrew requesting they halt the exits of more than 900 families from rapid rehousing and work to ensure smoth transitions and stable housing for these neighbors.

We agree. This bill will erode housing stability, increase evictions, and make it harder for tenants to pay rent *and* for landlords to collect rent. DC Council must reject any bill built on baseless claims that low-income, primarily Black, tenants are lying about their needs.

We had so few wins for housing in this budget and so few lifeboats for families on the rapid re-housing sinking ship. Devastating. This mistake (if it was, still unclear what really happened) will hurt DC residents-- yet all we get is finger pointing. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/…

In Washington DC, housing is the #1 unmet need for survivors. Housing assistance is vital in protecting survivors and their families, and cutting this much-needed assistance is devastating.

Exactly. Let's see some solutions that #KeepFamiliesHoused. We all know when Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Department of Human Services want to get something done they get it done. Let's see some of that energy here.

Thank you Councilmember_RobertWhite for making #RapidRehousing families a priority at the start of the fall legislative session. We hope Mayor Muriel Bowser and DC Department of Human Services will be able to find solutions to #KeepFamiliesHoused.

In the wake of the DC Department of Human Services claiming it has almost 300 fewer housing resources for families exiting rapid re-housing than the DC Council appropriated, it is worth reiterating why permanent housing resources matter so much right now. washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/…

When families are terminated from rapid re-housing, they can get stuck in a harmful cycle, where they become homeless, enter shelter, and are placed right back into rapid re-housing. Permanent affordable housing is often the only effective intervention that breaks this cycle:

#RapidRehousing provides short-term aid, but most families in the program face barriers to housing stability that can’t be resolved in 12 months. DC needs more long-term housing supports -- like vouchers -- and deeply affordable options to truly break the cycle and #EndTheCliff!

I got to hang out with some of these lovely people (and eat some yummy donuts!) at a Glitterer benefit concert for Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless last spring. Nice profile! washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/…
