Last week the ACT govt. passed Australia’s first protections against unnecessary medical interventions on intersex people, without their consent. We were on the ground to see the reactions from Intersex advocates, who have spent years campaigning for this across Aus.

🏳️‍⚧️We won! Queensland has joined Victoria, Tasmania, Northern Territory, South Australia and the ACT in passing legislation to remove the requirement for transgender people to undergo surgery before updating their gender identity on birth certificates.🏳️‍⚧️

So happy for Jackie Turner 🏳️‍⚧️ @Joe_c_Ball and all the incredible trans advocates who benefit from this life changing (incredibly overdue!) reform 🏳️‍⚧️

Now trans and gender diverse people in Queensland will have the dignity of recognition as who they are. It’s a good day! 🏳️‍⚧️
