We’re back at the negotiating table today fighting for a livable wage for our members. What the FT is offering doesn’t come anywhere close to that.

We’ve been hearing glowing reports about how well the FT is doing financially. And based on our CEO’s salary, the FT can afford to pay a living wage to the people who produce this award-winning — and lucrative — journalism.

And it’s just a good business decision. FT journalists do phenomenal work, and it’s in the company’s best interest to pay them what they’re worth so they don’t leave.

We are proposing a tiered system of salary minimums, starting at $80,000. Our proposal not only gives our workers a livable wage, but it also helps close glaring pay disparities.

The FT launched a campaign in 2019 called “Capitalism. Time for a reset.” We agree. It’s time for a reset on pay disparities and unlivable wages. It’s time for a reset on business as usual. We need your support! Retweet this thread to tell the FT you’re standing with us.

Congratulations to the FT Group for finding £30mn on the balance sheet to launch a venture fund! Surely this makes the $274K we've asked the FT to invest in raises for US workers look like a bargain. Looking forward to bargaining on March 11. We know what we're worth. Do you?

We’re in (hopefully) the final stretch of bargaining for our first contract with the Financial Times! We’re kicking off a week of in-person bargaining with management today in New York. But the work is far from over. We’ve still got a lot to fight for.

Like one time pay raises, with the largest amount going to the lowest paid third of the newsroom. This will help close glaring pay disparities and only cost the company $310,000. The FT recently announced a £30 mn venture fund — seems within their budget? axios.com/2024/02/27/ft-…

The union is demanding more parental leave for both parents. FT US journalists had 6 months of maternity leave until 2013. The company took it away, and we want it back. The FT Editorial Board values more equal parental leave - does the company? on.ft.com/3ViiGyt

Management has repeatedly turned down common sense proposals that would strengthen the US newsroom and make the FT a better competitor in the US market. It’s time for the FT to get serious and invest in the newsroom that brings so much to the company. on.ft.com/3wL2Th7

This morning, we sent an email to management and FT Ventures, the FT’s new £30mn venture capital arm set up to invest in “high-growth media and tech companies.” We asked them to invest just 1% of that in the US newsroom, where revenues have increased by more than 40% since 2019

That money would go towards new salary minimums and pay rises that would decrease disparities within our newsroom. They would also make us competitive in the US market. We’re asking the company to invest in its biggest asset: the very people who make the FT.

Financial Times showing they can horde resources and chisel working reporters and editors as well as any other media organization. Until this industry once again values the people who are elemental to the product, first-class journalism will remain at risk. Support FT US Guild

We're asking the FT to invest in its US newsroom because we want our coworkers to stay — which requires competitive pay. Among journalists who left the FT in the US in the past two years, the average salary increase was 58% Bron Maher pressgazette.co.uk/north-america/…

Welcome to #FTWeekendFestival! Shout-out to FT US Guild members on today’s program, including Lilah Raptopoulos, Marc Filippino, Robert Armstrong & @sonjahutson. They want a #faircontractnow, just like all our unit's 60+ US workers. Sadly, Financial Times defines “fair” as “heads I win, tails you lose”.

We’re back at the bargaining table today, more than two years after the Financial Times recognized our union. We still don’t have a contract. It’s time for management to get serious. Enough with the low-ball offers. Enough with the delays. The FT’s US staff deserves a fair contract now.

Members of FT US Guild stopped work for 30 minutes today to deliver a clear message to Financial Times CEO John Ridding and our owner @Nikkei: We deserve fair compensation We’re fighting for a higher retirement match, improved parental leave and one-time raises for our lowest-paid colleagues
