A perfect day for a walk with ⁦Maggie McLean⁩ on the Peak Pilgrimage - Bakewell to Curbar Gap. Climbing up above Baslow a great view back to Chatsworth with the Emperor Fountain rising above the stately home.

There is still much to digest and learn from the COVID-19 pandemic. Perhaps the UK COVID Inquiry will begin that process, but it is uncertain that we shall allow its findings to shape our understanding of inequalities in society or respond constructively. chrisswift.blog/2024/07/28/gri…

Just over 9 miles due south of York, on a bridge over the cycle route to Selby, a very rural view of York Minster, seen across fields that have been harvested in recent days. The south-west tower is visible along with the central tower & a fraction of the Chapter House roof.

I remember watching the ITV adaptation of Brideshead Revisited in 1981, with key scenes set in the opulant surroundings of Castle Howard. Visiting it today I was reminded of the scale and splendour which began to be created over 300 years ago in the Howardian Hills close to York.
