Check out our pre-print! We found that sediments collected near the Port of Miami were more detrimental to coral larvae than reef sediments.

“You look at these seasonal outlooks and such that are influenced by El Niño, and it might shift the odds to a 60% chance of heavy rains as opposed to the average, which might be a 33% chance,” Emily Becker, Assoc. Dir. ⁦CIMASRosenstiel. Read more 👇 journalistsresource.org/environment/el…

“The findings underscore the importance of local monitoring to understand how ocean acidification is impacting our region and to identify potential acidification hotspots and refugia,” said Ana Palacio-Castro, lead author. Ana Palacio

Good morning NOLA! My first conference since COVID and I’m excited to meet nextgen ocean scientists and talk science writing, publishing AGU (American Geophysical Union) JGR Oceans, self expression, inclusion, jobs University of Miami Rosenstiel School ( I’m recruiting postdocs!) and of course boundary currents. Bring it on!

“In some locations, about 20% of those populations survived,” ⁦Ana Palacio⁩ said of restored corals. “We’re concentrating our hope on why those corals survived and what they can tell us about resistance and how corals can be more resilient.” ⁦ nbcnews.com/science/enviro…

Updated C3S climate model mean continues to paint a favorable picture for Atlantic TC activity this summer, with a favorable Atlantic +AMO and La Niña developing. This leads to rising motion focused in the Atlantic, as evidenced by lower MSLP and enhanced rainfall.

Interesting potential spin up in the SW Atlantic next week. Some slight easterly shear but there is a solid outflow channel. Dry air in the environment will be a big limiter, and probably keep the system small too. Waters are warm enough, although cooler than further South.

Still not a ton of model signal for the wave in the Central Atlantic. This run of the Euro basically dropped development because it has slower development and less convection, and a stronger ridge pushes the system into the islands and a less favorable Caribbean.
