You can’t talk about hip hop without talking about Harlem. Kool DJ Red Alert, raised right here in Harlem, is a founding father of hip hop and an icon in the NYC DJing scene. It was a privilege to honor him with a proclamation in Montefiore Park this afternoon.

Today, my team joined NYC OATH in Riverside Park to answer questions about how to respond to city-issued summonses. Whether at our office, on the street, or in the park, our team is here to cut through red tape and help you navigate the complexities of government.

Today, I stopped by PS 368 with NYC Council Member Althea Stevens, who walked these halls not too long ago. We toured their Summer Rising program and saw youth engaging in all things arts to arithmetic. When schools have the resources they need, there’s no limit to how far our students can go.

The first day of school feeling isn’t complete without a new backpack! I’m teaming up with Ascension Church this Saturday, from 10:30-11:30AM, to hand out book-bags and make sure our kids are ready for the new school year. It’s first come, first serve!

Our backpack giveaway tour continues, today in multiple West Harlem locations! West Harlem teachers pioneered NYC’s new reading curriculum, showing the city what we can achieve when we invest in reading coaches and strong instructional tools. These kids have a bright year ahead.

Happy Women’s Equality Day! On the Upper West Side, we’re celebrating by registering voters to participate in this year’s historic election. Big thanks to Gale Brewer and Three Parks Dems for protecting our right to vote and bringing everyone into the civic process.

Backpack, backpack! In partnership with CCA Metro, we are handing out hundreds of backpacks next Tuesday afternoon at my District Office in West Harlem. Stop by with your kids to make sure they are all set for the school year. First come, first serve!

Last month in Chicago, Americans felt the love and pain of the Goldberg-Polin family as they fought for the safe return of their son, Hersh, and an end to the despair in Gaza. I am heartbroken by their loss. No other families should endure this tragedy.

As much as we remember the pain of 9/11, we also remember those who made us feel safe. We gathered at the Firemen’s Memorial at Riverside Park this morning to do just that. Thank you to our firefighters & first responders & all who have followed in the footsteps of our heroes.
