This feels like throwing good money after bad. How can a 61% increase in contract cost to one of the big four be justified. What a waste of taxpayer money on a terrible system. We need so much more accountability in how public money is spent. canberratimes.com.au/story/8745297/…

Another win for the online gambling companies 🤦‍♂️ A national regulator was the 3rd recommendation of the Murphy Review, recognising that our current patchwork of laws, and lack of enforcement, is failing to protect Australians. theaustralian.com.au/nation/politic…

Reports that the PM plans to water down an already weak proposal for a Federal EPA continues this govt's complete lack of courage. A total betrayal of the people and places we love. There is a path to get this through the senate in a better form that actually protects Nature.

Labor’s gambling reforms are turning out to be “more Peter V’landys than Peta Murphy”. Thanks Tim Costello & many others who keep pushing for the kind of reform that I’m hearing people want. Govt must put people ahead of gambling profits. theguardian.com/australia-news…

This is becoming even more ridiculous. Majura Valley farmers need and deserve certainty. ACT Government need to resolve this before they go into caretaker. canberratimes.com.au/story/8747932/…

The murder of these hostages is not only appalling, it is a war crime. Their deaths add to the unacceptable toll of civilians killed in this conflict. The world must push harder for a ceasefire, incl. the immediate safe release of the remaining hostages. abc.net.au/news/2024-09-0…

Australians want a government with the guts to take on the urgent reforms we need. That means protecting the people and places we love. Instead they want to work with the Coalition to water down a weak environmental regulator. Not good enough. abc.net.au/listen/program…

We already know 🇦🇺s lose more per capita in gambling losses than any other country in the world - this report from Grattan Institute adds even more weight to the evidence for a total gambling advertising ban. theguardian.com/australia-news…

BTR alone won’t solve the housing crisis but with some changes this bill could ⬆️ supply & help ⬇️ rents + better renters conditions like 5-year leases & banning no cause evictions We need to put politics aside & work together to fix housing affordability abc.net.au/news/2024-09-0…

Electoral reform is sorely needed but any kind of major party stitch up won't strengthen our democracy. New community-backed candidates need a fair chance to compete. We must also address threats like the use of AI in elections. capitalbrief.com/article/stitch…

National Cabinet needs to deliver today for the people in the ACT & across 🇦🇺 who need access to frontline family & domestic violence services. Too many are currently being turned away. Orgs like DVCS ACT Women's Legal ACT need more funding now. canberratimes.com.au/story/8753867/…

A 7-yr-old in the nation's capital shouldn't have to travel 3 hours for cancer treatment. Ppl should be able to receive the care they need here. When I’ve asked about this I’m told “it’s always been that way”. It doesn’t need to be. We can do better. abc.net.au/news/2024-09-0…

Always great to catch up with our ambos in the ACT. Lots to talk about, particularly how we can better support paramedics with their workloads, mental health + reduce rates of PTSD.

Experts are warning deepfakes are a threat to our democracy. The majors don’t see the urgency to deal with them. There’s still time to rule out the use of generative AI in elections. @albomp @petterduttonmp let’s protect our democracy. ✍️ Angira Bharadwaj dailytelegraph.com.au/news/nsw/david…
