Pleased to welcome Ambassador of Guatemala to the United Nations in Geneva, Ángela María Chávez Bietti, for her country's ratification of the @ILO Safe & Healthy Working Environment Convention. The ratification demonstrates Guatemala's commitment to promoting occupational safety & health.

In my statement to the ITUC-Africa // CSI-Afrique Conference of Women in Trade Unions, I emphasized the need for action to achieve gender equality. In particular, we need to ensure decent work for women, full participation in social dialogue & access to social protection. #ITUCAfricaWomen24

#IndigenousPeoples make up 6% of the global population but are overrepresented among the world's poorest. The @ILO Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Convention is designed to protect their human rights, livelihoods & access to decent work. I urge all Member States to Ratify #C169.

Our new GET Youth report shows an encouraging drop in global youth unemployment. We must redouble efforts to ensure the number of young people not in employment, education or training (NEET) is significantly reduced. All young people deserve a chance at a #decentjob. #YouthDay

With concerted action the global community can #EndSlavery for good. 50 million people are in modern slavery, 28 million of them are in forced labour. Ratification & implementation of the @ILO's Protocol on Forced Labour is essential to end this unacceptable human rights abuse.

Timely tripartite conference in Kazakhstan on advancing social justice in the era of the knowledge economy & #AI. Social dialogue has an essential role, to help ease transitions to new technology, uphold labour rights & ensure #AI-related jobs meet the standards of #decentwork.

Global cooperation is key to ensure that the knowledge economy & #AI support genuine progress in human development and a future with greater #SocialJustice. The proposed Global Digital Compact, for discussion at the United Nations #SummitOfTheFuture would be a step in the right direction.

Excellent meeting with Minister of Labour & Social Protection of Kazakhstan, Svetlana Zhakupova. I welcomed reforms to improve labour legislation & digitalization of Labour Ministry services. We also discussed implementation of Kazakhstan's roadmap for promotion of #DecentWork.

Good to meet with Satybaldy Dauletalin, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Federation of Trade Unions. We spoke about cooperation with @ILO, as well as social dialogue, ratification & implementation of int. labour standards, OSH, climate change, gender equality & youth union membership.

Highly appreciated conversation with President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. We discussed strengthening @ILO-Kazakhstan cooperation, the Global Coalition for #SocialJustice, the importance of multilateralism & looked ahead to the 2025 World Summit for Social Development.
