Delighted for our Law student, Esther, who's been selected (through a very competitive process) for a paid summer internship at the UoL Refugee Law Clinic alongside a student from UCL Faculty of Laws (and an external intern from NYU Law). Great RLC summer event also, open to all students & public

The PM calling the European Court of Human Rights a 'foreign court' when launching Conservatives manifesto, while we were addressing "withdrawal from the ECHR: from taboo to tenable?" w/ Dr Ed Bates in our Law & Society series Here's Prof Dimitrios Giannoulopoulos and Dr Bates reacting

A different - positive and optimistic - perspective on the ECHR’s very brief mention, and seemingly an inconsequential one, in the Conservatives’ manifesto, by our Visiting Professor, Adam Wagner.

It's impossible to view the postings of Farage, without utter revulsion. He masquerades as a " reasoned commentator" on what he claims to be a national crisis linked to immigrants while claiming he deplores any lawlessness. Then he hints at more lawlessness if his warnings are

I remember acting for people in May Day riots (23 years ago). 1st time that tech from police helicopters was of good enough quality to clearly show actions . So most cases were guilty pleas. Now it’s also bodycams. The person in the cell was very different to that on camera.

On the riots: 1. There is no justification for rioting, violence, racial harassment or racial violence. None whatsoever. 2. That's why none of those behaviours are protected by the human right to free expression or to assembly, and there is accordingly no defence of free

Conventional criminal law can deal adequately w/ offences committed by rioters, says former DPP Lord Macdonald. Terrorism offences should be reserved for acts they traditionally apply to I agree. Terror offences for Manchester Arena bombing or London Bridge attack not this #riots
