Last week, our team was in Gaza City. William Schomburg, head of sub-delegation, talks about the destruction seen & the urgent humanitarian needs of the many people, communities, and children in northern Gaza, and the ICRC's work to resume its desperately needed support to them.

Today we mark the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions. Since Aug. 12th, 1949, they have safeguarded human dignity in the darkest times. 📜 States and non-state armed groups must ensure these rules continue to save lives.

In July, the ICRC supported local service providers and the Jabalia Municipality in providing drinkable water to 10,000 people through water trucking, delivering 50,000 liters per day.

Enormous medical needs continue to grow amidst a collapsed health-care system in the Gaza Strip. Since May, the Red Cross Field Hospital in Rafah, with support from 12 National Societies and PRCS, has been working around the clock to provide critical emergency care.

Until the last hostage is returned, we continue to call for ICRC visits, medical care and establishing family contacts.

📍Rafah–Red Cross Field Hospital With increasingly overwhelming medical needs and limited available resources, we are doing what we can. Lead technician Paula gives us a tour of the workshop, where everything like crutches & other essential hospital furniture is produced on-site.

Families in Gaza face many challenges to prepare food amid the lack of electricity & poor infrastructure. The ICRC started a community baking facilities project in #KhanYounis to ensure families have access to clay ovens, firewood & shade, but also to support income generation.

📍 Gaza Abu Ta’ima & his family have faced months of pain, displaced multiple times. Each day is a struggle, amid soaring prices, scarce water & unbearable heat, uncertain if they are safe or must move again. Civilians must be protected & have access to essential services #IHL
