This is one of the most fascinating & poignant podcast episodes I’ve ever listened to. Amazing work by Pablo Torre 🕳️ & David Fleming. It’s an amazing story about how these “Hitler oaks” that Owens won in the Olympics have become a symbol for social & environmental justice.

The best among us are people like Jesse Owens, people who, even at their lowest point, even after being horribly mistreated, they still remain hopeful and still manage to put others first. That triumph is what these Olympic Oaks represent to me.

I get to work on transformative projects in my job (property tax relief, middle neighborhoods initiative, neighborhood funding reform, etc etc), but getting to meet, learn from, and work with incredible neighbors like Phyllis make it all worthwhile.
