This is 100% true. We’ve passed a key milestone, but there’s still a lot of history to be written and Google will do anything it can to get in the way of progress.

🟠 U.S. Judge Rules Google's Monopoly is Illegal 🟠 Statement on the U.S. v. Google ruling: Judge Amit Mehta issued an historic ruling today saying in no uncertain terms: "Google is a monopolist, and it has acted as one to maintain its monopoly." Google has used its monopoly

The judge in US v Google noted that Google appeared to have destroyed evidence. If that is the case it is very important that Google not get away with it or destruction of evidence will be the standard operating procedure in antitrust cases. DOJ has filed the appropriate motion.

In 2016, Google changed a single line in its privacy policy, indicating the most significant boost to its surveillance machine in a decade: linking behavioral data across ads and user accounts. A recently unsealed internal doc provides details on this project, known as Narnia2:

Google's AI Overviews come at steep cost to sites that users would otherwise visit. But publishers say they can’t afford to block Google’s AI from their content - because it would mean risking their visibility in Google search. Story with Davey Alba: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Borrowing from Carville: Its the index, stupid! Great piece from Davey Alba and Julia Love about the immense power of Google’s search index (maintained illegally) over not just the general search market and publishers, but the future of AI too. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

Pardon me. There isn't yet enough discussion about the AI implications of Google's dominance. I want to share a bit of important math in the recent decision that Google not only has monopoly power but illegally abused it. Google sees *19 times the queries of rest of market.* 1/4

New data point: Google's illegal monopoly reaps $400 million *per day* in ad revenue. That's a whole lot of money for an illegal business model. Under the new CA leg deal to resolve CJPA, Google would pay just $30M - 0.02% of ad rev - to news outlets. kcra.com/article/califo…

"Shoved down our throats." That's how Stephanie Layser, former VP of Ad Tech at $10B/yr mass media company NewsCorp, described the ever-changing rules imposed by Google on its digital ad exchange. If NewsCorp can't negotiate a fair shake, no one can. 🧵
