Great to finally be International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP in Japan - sorry May Berenbaum couldn’t be here in person but Walter Leal did a GR8 job of honouring her & substituting with some fascinating chemical ecology. Also gr8 to catch up with old friends - here with Geoff in Walter’s lecture.

Yesterday, I gave one of the most challenging presentations of my career - a lecture arranged at the 11th hour to fill in the gap at International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP created by May Berenbaum's understandable but unfortunate cancellation of the Wigglesworth Lecture. We miss May at ICE2024Kyoto!

Just dropping by to say "Hello!" #Praying mantis, Stagmomantis limbata, wants to "meet and eat," not "meet and greet." #BugSquad rb.gy/tt32j3

The next Bohart Museum of Entomology open house, #ucdavis, is Saturday, Sept. 28. Theme is "Know Your ABC's: Arthropods, Bohart and Collecting." Note that summer hours are over, and Bohart Museum will be closed to public Sept. 1-22. #BugSquad rb.gy/2a36fd

One of our trustees Prof Seirian Sumner opens the social insect session! Genes and their expression are associated with caste, but the genes differ with social complexity. Genome 'juggling' doesn't clearly predict sociality but superorganismal specie genomes are well conserved. #ICE2024

RJ Millena: In kindergarten, she declared she wanted to be an entomologist. Fast forward to today: the #ucdavis alumna is a doctoral candidate at AMNH and has scored the cover story, Environmental Entomology. #twisted wing parasites. #BugSquad rb.gy/4s7242

Labor Day: no holiday for honey bees. Look at that heavy pollen from a zinnia. As #ucdavis emeritus professor Norm Gary says: "Bees seem to have Herculean strength, flying with loads nearly as heavy as their body weight." #BugSquad rb.gy/xxfuf1

Incredibly proud to share this work, almost 6 years in the making, out in Science Magazine!!! 🎇 We've known for over a century that eukaryotes of all kinds anticipate the seasons (think: hibernation, flowering, reproduction), but what about bacteria?🦠 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…

On Sept. 6, 2016 it happened. A tagged monarch flew from Ashland, Ore. to Vacaville, Calif. That's 285 miles in 7 days or 40.7 miles per day. Part of #WSU entomologist David James' migratory monarch research. #BugSquad rb.gy/6nd4bz
