Many volunteers are arriving to help making International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP a great success: many thanks
Great to finally be International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP in Japan - sorry May Berenbaum couldn’t be here in person but Walter Leal did a GR8 job of honouring her & substituting with some fascinating chemical ecology. Also gr8 to catch up with old friends - here with Geoff in Walter’s lecture.
Yesterday, I gave one of the most challenging presentations of my career - a lecture arranged at the 11th hour to fill in the gap at International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP created by May Berenbaum's understandable but unfortunate cancellation of the Wigglesworth Lecture. We miss May at ICE2024Kyoto!

One of our trustees Prof Seirian Sumner opens the social insect session! Genes and their expression are associated with caste, but the genes differ with social complexity. Genome 'juggling' doesn't clearly predict sociality but superorganismal specie genomes are well conserved. #ICE2024
As International Congress of Entomology 2024 Kyoto JP is ending soon, I have collated a video message for May Berenbaum. We miss May in Kyoto and look forward to seeing her at another entomology gathering. This is one ICE that was so well covered by the multi-talented Prof Walter Leal. You would've thought that there was an official journalist! Thank you, Walter! Incredibly proud to share this work, almost 6 years in the making, out in Science Magazine!!! 🎇 We've known for over a century that eukaryotes of all kinds anticipate the seasons (think: hibernation, flowering, reproduction), but what about bacteria?🦠 science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…
