Thinking of those who died, the survivors and all those who lost loved ones at Grenfell today. As with every scandal in recent times, it was not the people who suffered who caused it. Those in power need to be held to account & ordinary people's concerns listened to and acted on.

The previous government delighted in 'cutting red tape' which protected people and doing away with experts while their friends profited. We see it today in the Grenfell report & we'll see it again in the Covid inquiry. They must be held to account.

I wrote In Little Stars after a friend and her young son were horrifically racially abused on a train. Six years on it's still happening. And too many people remain silent or try to justify it as 'banter'. Time for a zero tolerance policy from train operators and British Transport Police
