Has anyone modeled how many HIV infections could have been prevented by equitable access to ARVs after 1997? Obv lots in avoidable deaths but since ARVs stop transmission, must also be true that many infections would have been prevented in Africa, Asia, LatAm w equal access

Good that mRNA might work against MPox. But if the past is any indication, we should expect this to matter very little if Moderna is the decision-maker in who gets doses, at what price, and in what timeline. statnews.com/2024/09/04/mod…

BIG news from India: People with drug-resistant TB can now access BPaLM i.e. more efficacious, much shorter, all-oral and has less side effects. It will also ensure better adherence and ambulatory treatment for many. Congrats to everyone who finally made this happen!

Best estimate is that about 186,000 deaths attributable to the current conflict in Gaza, which is roughly 7.9% of its population, by mid-June 2024… There is no rationalization, just crimes. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Any single day this would be staggering—to strike a UN school where people are sheltering. But it’s day after day. We cannot become desensitized to war crimes.

What's happening in Gaza is totally unacceptable. A school turned shelter for around 12,000 people was hit by Israeli airstrikes again today. Six of our UNRWA colleagues are among those killed. These dramatic violations of international humanitarian law need to stop now.

Thank you Kerry Cullinan for scrutinizing the implicit promises of Equity in "localized" manufacturing and its novel financing mechanisms like @Gavi's #AVMA. Are they designed to foster equitable access or are they just another business-as-usual market incentive for companies?

one of our major candidates’ lead talking points is that immigration is bad for the economy because otherwise the US would be the most prosperous nation in the world, and… oh, wait.
