Smoke Alarms Save Lives. Most fire deaths happen in homes with no working smoke alarms. Make sure your home has working smoke alarms. #SmokeAlarmsSaveLives #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention

Close Before You Doze. A closed door can slow the spread of fire, reduce toxic smoke levels, improve oxygen levels and decrease temperatures dramatically – and that could make a life-saving difference in your home. #FireSafetyTips #FirePrevention #CloseBeforeYouDoze

On 9/13/70 an arsonist set fire to the Ponet Square Hotel in Los Angeles killing 19. Flames spread up an open stairway & residents were forced to jump from their windows. Later ordinances required self-closing doors, which became known as "Ponet Doors." #FireHistory

This week’s theme is “Smoking Safety.” DYK that smoking materials are the leading cause of fire deaths? And 1 in 4 fatal victims of smoking-material fires is not the smoker who started the fire. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe youtu.be/awGcifctlVE

Smoke outside. Many things in your home can catch on fire if they touch something hot like a cigarette or ashes. It is always safer to smoke outside. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe

Never smoke in bed. Mattresses and bedding can catch on fire easily. Do not smoke in bed because you might fall asleep with a lit cigarette. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe

Smoke only when alert. Do not smoke after taking medicine that makes you tired. You may not be able to prevent or escape from a fire if you are sleepy or have taken medicine that makes you tired. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe

On 9/19/02 a stampede at the Shiloh Church in Birmingham killed 115 people. As Booker T. Washington concluded his speech to more than 2,000, a shout of "FIGHT" was mistaken for "FIRE" and in the ensuing panic victims were crushed or suffocated. #FireHistory #NeverForget

Put cigarettes out all the way. Do this every time. Don’t walk away from lit cigarettes and other smoking materials. Put water on the ashes and butts to make sure they are really out before you put them in the trash. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe

Never smoke around medical oxygen. Medical oxygen can explode if a flame or spark is near. Even if the oxygen is turned off, it can still catch on fire. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe

Fire and explosions caused by e-cigarettes are not common, but their consequences can be devastating and life-altering for the victims. The main cause of the fires and explosions is failure of the lithium-ion batteries. #SmokingFireSafety #FirePrevention #FireSafetyTips #BeSafe
