Herpetology curator Definitely not @MarkScherz on all other platforms just received a slender snouted croc - Mecistops cataphractus - specimen. It sadly died from illness but will be in good care in our collections where it can help researchers understand the species better. Follow Mark for more herpetology news.

So Velvet ants are actually wasps. Even more confusing - they exhibit Müllerian mimicry - which is the resemblance between several harmful species, advertising their defence to would-be predators. New paper out from the New Hope Middle collections. doi.org/10.1093/biolin…

Danish Bird Ringing Center on fieldwork fitting GPS transmitters for monitoring white storks. The stork project has run since 2021. It has taught us about migration routes and death traps from high voltage masts to slurry tanks, which can then be mitigated saving more birds

Beautiful SEM scans provide new evidence for co-evolution of tiny marine copepods and their diatom prey in NaturalHistoryDK DTU study. Feeding on diatoms causes significant wear and tear on copepod teeth leading copepods to become selective feeders. pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
