Nice to get an email this morning inviting me to enhance my modelling career. Not start, note, but ‘enhance’. Modesty prevents further comment.

Who knew that India’s cricketers were so interested in the Rugby World Cup quarterfinals that they’d rush to get their match finished?

I’ve been outraged by the Post Office scandal for a couple of years now, but I’m also outraged that it takes a TV drama to bring it to the attention of our dozy politicians.

Sad news of the death of Barry John. The greatest fly-half I ever saw. I worked with him when I was producing rugby on the radio and got him onto TMS’ View From The Boundary. He wore his brilliance lightly.

One of the courtesies that make rugby a better game than soccer was the home team changing in a colour clash. Sad that that’s gone.

Fascinating to see Victoria Coren Mitchell complaining about OVO Energy. In sorting my late aunt’s estate OVO were the most difficult to deal with. Luckily she didn’t do direct debit, because they kept demanding £6k when she owed £35.

I see Greg Hands is trying to revive the Chelsea bun. Brian Johnston once tried to do the same for Lord’s, raising the matter at the MCC AGM. Pity they couldn’t join forces.

Two National scandals that politicians on all sides seem to want to kick into the long grass both begin with po. Post Office and pot holes. They should be thoroughly ashamed of the disgrace of both.

Reading the obituary of Tony O’Reilly today, I remember Cliff Morgan telling wonderful stories of the great man in his rugby days. His bootlace broke before a match at Twickenham and he had to beg the England team for “some hairy twine fer me boots.”

Just heard a tribute to Vincent Duggleby on R4’s Moneybox. I remember him in the Sports News unit, where he was an early mentor to Christopher Martin-Jenkins. Later, of course, the voice of money news on radio

Hearing Jimmy Anderson on Radio & TV this morning, I am reminded of going to interview him in East London during the 2003 World Cup. “Good luck getting something out of him”, said his captain Nasser Hussain.

If you find a good logo, re-use it. Even after 45 years. Telegraph business news and 1979 Cricket World Cup. (Seam’s wobbled a bit.)
