With asylum apps now being processed more quickly at both primary & AAT, the number refused at both stages & not departed increased over past 6 months at around 1,400 per month. At end July, it hit a new record of 43,499 with the total number of asylum seekers in OZ at 116,389.

My roof top solar is at the moment producing about 5,000 watts of energy per hour & I’m using about 300 watts per hour.

Temporary graduates are an essential part of student debate but has received almost zero attention. How Govt manages current 240,000 temporary graduates in OZ (& rising) will be crucial. independentaustralia.net/politics/polit…

The biggest difference between a per capita recession & an actual recession is that under an actual recession, hundreds of thousands more people lose their job. We haven’t had a pre-longed recession for a long time so most people don’t remember.

Waleed hasn’t looked at the numbers but just swallowed lobby group propaganda. Caps won’t reduce overall student numbers, possibly not even at Go8. Overall growth will slow due to visa settings but overall numbers won’t shrink as is being suggested. smh.com.au/politics/feder…

As Jared Kushner would confirm, jobs like these in the Trump White House would be excellent jobs to get. bbc.com/news/articles/…

The student caps for universities, set at around 2023 levels, seem to be more about increasing student numbers than reducing them.

These confirm caps are about increasing student numbers compared to the outcome that would result from current visa processing settings. Key now is the power struggle over visa processing settings. If these cap numbers are delivered, forecast reduction in NOM would not be.

While Dutton has largely been reluctant to make this into a political issues (given he was in charge when numbers first blew out), he may not be able to resist for much longer. johnmenadue.com/unsuccessful-a…

PVOs ability to completely ignore the numbers is extraordinary. If the aggregate caps (which relate to new students) are delivered, overall student numbers (the stock) in OZ would continue to rise. Key is what happens to visa processing. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

Sometime in next 1-2 years, most of these 240k temporary graduates (& rising strongly) will hit a visa brick wall. Their options will be limited & many will choose the asylum route to extend stay. It could be as early as Jan/Feb/Mar25. independentaustralia.net/politics/polit…

Caps have 2 objectives: (1) Jason Clare making a power grab from Tony Burke. (2) Education Dept wanting to INCREASE student numbers above level that would result from current visa policy settings. independentaustralia.net/politics/polit…

Dutton’s appalling record on issues of race perhaps exceeds that of Pauline Hanson. That’s quite an achievement. crikey.com.au/peter-dutton-i…

There is an assumption that slowing the flow of new students means a cut in the stock. The stock of students in OZ next year will be bigger than this year although growing more slowly. Just do the arithmetic. afr.com/politics/feder…

Sukkar on #QandA is wrong to say Labor ramped up net migration. Policies to do that were implemented by Coalition. Labor was too slow to reverse those policies.

Abul Rizvi (@rizviabul) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Ramp up in student numbers were to a tiny degree due to catch up but mainly due to policies to implemented to actually ramp up numbers at end of covid. #QandA
