If you monitor news in many states like I do, you see GOP cracking down on unhoused people in some, Dems cracking down in others, while both parties criticize each other for "failing" on homelessness. And both propose the same "new approach"--doubling down on the failed approach.

Is Musk/X still semi-blocking New York Times articles? This is a rare excellent one. Another of America's biggest psychiatric hospital chains engaged in fraudulent commitments for profit. (I wish NYT would show similar critique covering involuntary commitment of homeless people.)

Appropriately, a lot of people are focusing on the harm to the patients and inappropriateness of the individuals in charge. However, if psychiatry wants to remain (some would say be) a serious field, we must be at the forefront of addressing issues like this.

Ok, y'all know I like to use polite language, but it's difficult when a prominent organization like NAMI is literally telling journalists that loitering in front of a store repeatedly should be evidence enough of your depth of madness to involuntarily commit you.
