With support from the Gates Foundation, the UNSGSA office was established at the UN in 2010. That same year, the #UNSGSA presented her first annual report to UN-SG Ban Ki-moon. The office supports the work of the UNSGSA and facilitates partnerships to advance financial inclusion.
2011 World Bank Global Findex, initiated by #UNSGSA, shows 51% account ownership worldwide. #UNSGSA visits Egypt and Mali, leads the first meeting with Bank for International Settlements and global SSBs on #financialinclusion and becomes Honorary Patron of G20 Global Partnership for Financial Inclusion.
“Financial inclusion is a means to an end, not an end in itself,” says the #UNSGSA. As part of the 2013 United Nations MDG Report, #financialinclusion is now firmly on the global development agenda as an enabler of positive development outcomes, especially for the world’s most vulnerable.

Basel Committee on Banking Supervision develops guidance on application of Core Principles relevant to #financialinclusion & the #UNSGSA addresses #financialinnovation Bank for International Settlements All-Governors Meeting.
