Need to set #cameratraps where there are no trees? No problem! WildCo Lab members got creative with some high elevation sets in alpine ecosystems this summer (📷: Cole Burton & Zoe Konanz) Who else has some "unconventional" camera sets to share? 👀

So great to see Metro Vancouver embrace the way #cameratraps can benefit and contribute to local wildlife research! Check out their work 👇 Wildlife Cameras in Metro Vancouver Watersheds fb.watch/ovCY5ioWia/ via facebookwatch

Camera trapping tip! When deploying camera traps there are multiple parameters to consider such as the camera height, angle and distance to the targeted wildlife trail. For more information check out: wildcams.ca/site/assets/fi…

#CameraTrappingTip Be sure to remove vegetation in front of your camera! Fast-growing herbaceous plants like this fireweed sway in the wind and can cause tens of thousands of misfire images, threatening your camera’s battery life and causing data management headaches.

#Cameratrappingtip Especially in the winter, tracks like this deer print can be useful for informing wildlife camera📸placements. It’s important to document and carefully consider the location of cameras relative to game trails + the overall study design to avoid unintended bias.

#CameraTrappingTip As seen in this photo, bears are often drawn to camera traps, and can cause significant damage. Metal lock boxes, however, can be used to prevent damage and theft, thereby maximizing the amount of time your camera is operational!

#NewPaper New research shows that wildlife camera detection rates are highly correlated with traditional density estimation methods, suggesting cameras can track changes in animal abundance (for most species). wildlife.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.100…

For an overview of estimating wildlife density using camera traps, check out the Wildcam handbook released last year ! researchgate.net/publication/36…

An impressive #cameratrap study involving many members of WildCAM, along with hundreds of other camera-trappers from around the world! A nice example of the power of camera trap networks to improve understanding of wildlife responses to people

To cluster wildlife cameras or not? Recent research suggests Yes! Check out: Laura Stewart’s thesis with WildCo Lab in the N.W.T: open.library.ubc.ca/soa/cIRcle/col… And this recent study (Palencia et al., 2024) in BES: besjournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…

Do you have #cameratrap detections of mesocarnivores in British Columbia? It's not too late to contribute to the Mesocarnivore Distribution Modeling project, but hurry! wildcams.ca/blog/mesocarni…
